Spring Break Wild Parties

Roberto Pietri "Meoni"

Starting from the bottom, in picture No. 1 and No. 2 Roberto Pietri "Meon" exit the box of 8 hours in Ontario 1980. In the picture n.3 Pietri Daytona during Race Week 1982. I state that the writing of this post was rather difficult as finding information on this Venezuelan driver who has trodden the scenes of the AMA Superbike and AMA F1 in the late seventies and early eighties, it was not easy. His name is inseparably linked to the Honda, House for which he has always raced in his career, playing the role of Pilot Journal. Roberto Pietri this fascinating character: Venezuelan resident in the U.S., physicist from Hollywood actor, character Gascon, air playboy, rich family (he was the nephew of former Venezuelan President Rafael Caldera). Despite his family's coat of arms, it was almost always dry dollars, then how often the offspring of families who wish to dedicate prestigious races in spite of the recommendations of parents who would like their son embark on an entirely different career than that of the pilot. Written on the stone brought suit rather than his real name, nickname "Meon" which had been saddled by his older brother, when Robert, still small, it was wet the bed. But probably the time to race, despite the nickname "Meon" was embroidered on the chest in full view of his suit, nobody would have dared to call it that, in a tone of derision, as the Venezuelan driver was also a black belt full contact and had represented his country several times in international competitions. Among his successes, as well as those of "stage" obtained in the AMA Superbike, we remember the 200 Miles of Imola 1982 riding a Honda. In the same year should be mentioned the third-place finish in the Daytona 200 (AMA Formula One) and also in the same position in more 100 miles of Daytona (AMA Superbike). Pietri was one of the great designers of the pioneering work with the AMA Superbike: Wes Cooley, Mike Baldwin, Freddie Spencer, Eddie Lawson, Mike Spencer. In the late seventies and early eighties, along with fellow mentioned brawl, riding the beautiful Nipponese four-cylinder derived from the series will be challenged in epic battles that have since been engraved in the memories of fans.
