When men were real men and motorbikes motorcycles were true ..
Year 1991, WERA National Endurance Championship, circuit, Indiana. In the picture, both riding Suzuki GSX-R 750 we see Kurt Hall in the first position, followed like a shadow from Wes Cooley. In that season of the American Endurance Championship, Team Valvoline Suzuki Endurance with drivers Kurt Hall and Michael Martin, had no rivals, winning with 11 victories in the series, leaving only the crumbs of fact to the opponents. Team Valvoline Suzuki found the only competitor able to trouble, on occasion, the pair of riders lined up by another team that put on the fabulous track bikes Hamamatsu: the Suzuki Ace Racing Team which competed for the veteran Wes Cooley, twice champion of the AMA Superbike and the young (19 years!) Steve Patterson. In the specific case of the race held in October on circuit in Indiana, the pair of riders Ace gave battle in the early stages of the race unbeatable Valvoline team, keeping pace with no problems. At the end of the race, however, most organized team, combined with the best setup of the bike, made the difference and Wes Cooley and the young Stevie Patterson, despite their efforts, they had to settle for a place of honor around by the victors. A curiosity: a mid-week, or a few hours before the race weekend, the State of Indiana was hit by a wave of icy winds from Canada who made a sudden fall in temperatures. The race was run too as there was rainfall, but in its early stages did the thermometer indicates a temperature of just 4.5 degrees, forcing the pilots to wear heavy clothing under their suits.
